Seen it in shops and been hesitant on how good it really is.
My old hose used in the front garden is very heavy and a pain to wind up after before and after using and destroys my plants as you pull it and now it takes up every little space and works the same as regular hose amazed how it shrinks and takes up so little room and performs the same way. And no need to wind or unwind it on the hose cart..So glad I got it now only had it a week and no leaks…phew.

Mounted this reel on a stained 6 x 6 pressure treated post (air dried for 3 months) sunk approx. 32″ into the ground in a concrete filled hole approx. 14″ diameter. Used 5/16″ galvanized lag bolts to attach reel to post. Added a wood base for some design interest and a pyramid cap to keep the moisture out of the end grain of the wood. Unlike some other reviewers, I found this reel holds 150′ of 5/8″ medium/heavy duty hose (Lowe’s) so it’s enough to reach any spot in my yard. Easily retrieves hose back onto the reel with minimal wobble and having the reel at approx 4 feet off the ground makes it easy to turn the crank. My only design hiccup was not leaving enough slack in the supply hose from reel to post when I rotate the reel but that was corrected easily.

I have several types of hose reels, two for power cords and one for compressed air in my shop. My old, crappy plastic hand reel for my water hose finally broke and this looked cool so I took a chance.
Here it is in a nutshell:
It’s well made and does the job.
You can, if you wish, replace the hose that comes with it.
I have not done it but it sure is nice that you can.
These mechanisms need a certain touch to work well and I think that is why some folks have problems.
The touch that I speak of is basically not forcing the roll up spring to do its job.
If you gently guide the hose then it works perfectly.
I like this thing and would recommend it.
